The Xiaomi has promised to release at least 10 smartphones with 5G in 2020 , and the first step towards achieving this goal happen already next month: the company will open in December a new factory dedicated to the technology that will produce 60 cell per minute. The information was revealed by CEO Lei Jun during the World 5G Conference event.
According to the China Securities Journal , the factory is located in Beijing and will have a total area of 187,000 square meters. During its initial operations, the new facilities will produce about 1 million smartphones per month. At its full potential, however, the site will average one device per second, which is about 60 percent more performance than traditional solutions used by the Chinese company.
Xiaomi's new construction is being called the "5G factory" not only because of the company's big focus on standard mobile phones, but also because of the technology's use within the facility. To ensure large-scale production, the company will use standalone robot assembly lines that communicate via 5G, big data information and cloud services.
Fast production capacity will be used to streamline next year's 5G handset design and also enhance the Flash Sales experience, which typically has limited device stocks. Xiaomi gave no details on what will be the first devices to leave the new factory. Still, the company is due to launch the 5G Redmi K30 soon , which is likely to be one of the first phones with the new connection standard to hit the market in 2020.
