Kelly Clarkson's "Heartbeat Song" - Single Review

She has finally returned to us. Ready to make the pop world a much better place!

The original American Idol, the fiercely talented Kelly Clarkson, returns in the new year with her first pop geared single since 2013 and it's set to make its mark on radio.

The instantly catchy rock-laced "Heartbeat Song" is the lead offering from the "Already Gone" crooner's upcoming seventh studio album, Piece By Piece, which is set for release this March. Get ready to see this cute, poppy jam at the top of the charts very soon.

Now, while the song is nowhere near as epic or Earth shattering, as let's say... "Stronger (What Doesn't Kill You)" or "My Life Would Suck Without You"... the new single definitely makes an impression on the listeners and embodies the overall essence of Clarkson's song catalog: a true, confident pop number with some rock-influenced instrumentals thrown in to support the singer's always stellar vocals. After a couple of listens, the new single will have anyone bopping their head as they shout along.

"Heartbeat Song" is a unique release, especially for Clarkson. While most of her singles take the time to build up to a loud, pulsating chorus, the new single does the exact opposite. As the hook rolls around the corner, the tempo slows itself down, the drums kick in and turns the new track into a softer, Top 40 ready, sing-along worthy effort. "This is my heartbeat song and I'm gonna play it, been so long I forgot how to turn it up, up, up, up all night long," she sings on the adorable love song.

Clarkson hasn't been hiding from the spotlight since the release of 2012s Stronger. She released her first, successful greatest hits album and promoted her first Christmas album for more than a year, but it's nice to finally hear her back in her comfort zone. The American Idol winner is back and sounds more confident and in tune with the pop genre once again.

"Heartbeat Song" will not win any awards for being the greatest release of 2015, however, it fits in nicely with the rest of Clarkson's numerous chart toppers and will be one of those songs that will be difficult to escape. Not like you'd want to escape from it anyway.
