DUBLIN, CA – Noah Mac, a 17-year-old singer from Dublin, was among seven winners to advance in this week's "Knockout Rounds" on The Voice!
On "Team Jennifer," Mac was among standouts selected by vocal artist Jennifer Hudson and got his start in music in a heartbreaking way, having performed as a youngster at the funeral of his 19-year-old sister, Stevie, who died from brain cancer.
"Noah spends most of his time writing and recording music in a studio he built himself in his family's backyard shed," according to his NBC bio. "His sister was his biggest inspiration. Despite his sadness, he decided to sing at her funeral. His performance shocked everyone, including his parents, who had no idea he had a voice. Noah recently produced and released an EP."
This week, Hudson paired Mac with singer Jeremiah Miller, who sang "Sorry" by Justin Bieber, while Mac performed "Hold Back the River" by James Bay, reports said.
"It appeared Noah had the upper-hand because he made Kelly Clarkson cry in rehearsals," according to Reality TV World, adding that "Kelly even pointed out that Blake (Shelton) was 'an idiot' for ever getting rid of him. After the performance, Miley (Cyrus) believed Noah had won the Knockout, as did Adam (Levine), who called Noah 'a superstar' and unlike anything they've ever seen in the competition."
Hudson named Noah winner of the Knockout "because he really proved his talent and performs beyond his years." the report said.
Winners of "The Knockout Round" advance to "The Live Playoffs" in which remaining artists perform live on TV for home-viewer votes. In addition to Mac, winners were Team Miley's Brooke Simpson, a 26-year-old from Hollister, NC; Team Blake's Mitchell Lee, a 29-year-old from Columbia, SC who currently resides in Nashville, TN; Team Blake's Keisha Renee, a 30-year-old backup singer for Nicki Minaj from Las Vegas; Team Adam's Jon Mero, a 31-year-old from Des Moines, IA who currently resides in Atlanta; Team Miley's Moriah Formica, a 16-year-old from Latham, NY; and Team Adam's Emily Luther, a 24-year-old from Woonsocket, RI.
