NIGERIA RANKED 103RD HAPPIEST COUNTRY IN THE WORLD AND BURUNDI IS THE LEAST

Denmark overtook Swtzerland as the world's happiest place with Nigeria ranked 103rd in a report released on Wednesday prepared by Sustanaible Development Solutions Network (SDSN) and the Earth Institution at Columbia University.
The report is geared towards urging nations regardless of wealth to tackle inequality and protect the environment.

Syria, Afghanistan and eight sub-saharan countries made the 10 least happy places on earth.

The top ten this year are Denmark, Switzerland, Iceland, Norway, Finland, Canada, Netherlands, New Zealand, Australia and Sweden.

Switzerland and Iceland topped the list last year in first and second positions respectively while Denmark placed third.

Denmark has made a giant stride from third position to first position.

Burundi was the unhappiest place on earth in this year's list. Others at the bottom were in this order, Madagascar, Tanzania, Liberia, Guinea, Rwanda, Benin, Afghanistan, Togo, Syria and Burundi.

United States was in 13th position with United Kingdom, France and Italy placing 23, 32 and 50 respectively.

The 2016 report shows that 3 countries, Ireland, Iceland and Japan maintained high levels of happiness despite external shocks such as 2007 economic crises and 2011 earthquake due to social support and solidarity.

Costa Rica came in 14th ahead of wealthier countries though it is not an economic powerhouse.
