Two Beheaded In Anambra By Alleged Kogi Attackers

Two persons have been reportedly beheaded while four others sustained varying degrees of injuries following an attack purportedly carried out by armed men suspected to be from Ibaji, Kogi state, on some people working on their farms in Anambra state.

The attack was allegedly carried out at Eziagulu Otu, near the embattled Orient Petroleum Resources on Wednesday, August 5. Vanguard reports that the attackers sneaked into the farms and caught the people unawares. The people fled into the river but six people were said to have been captured. Two out of the six were allegedly beheaded, while four others seriously were injured.

The attack came just 24 hours after the oil company informed the governor of Anambra state, Willie Obiano that two new wells in Aguleri had been acquired so as to increase its crude oil production to 3,000 barrels per day in September.

According to Vanguard, a message sent to publicise the attack to the inhabitants of the town stated that: “Information reaching our town indicates that Kogi people are attacking Eziagulu Otu and Enugu Otu in several groups and are about to overrun the area and the oil field facilities there.”

Mr. Hosea Karma, the Anambra state commissioner of police who confirmed the incident said his command and their Kogi counterpart were collaborating to prevent further attacks.

Meanwhile, in another incident, Ogbuife Chinedu was apprehended by the police over his alleged involvement in the murder of Igwe Peter Onuoha, the traditional ruler of Nkerefi community in Nkanu East local government area, Enugu state.
