"Walk a Mile in Her Shoes" is an international event that was formed by men who decided to create a march to take a stand against violence towards women, while walking a mile in high heel shoes.
According to the National Sexual Violence Resource Center, “In the U.S., one in three women and one in six men experienced some form of contact sexual violence in their lifetime.”
Partnership for Families, Children, and Adults knows first-hand that sexual assault is not only a women’s issue, and is hosting a one-mile walk to end sexual violence for all, and to raise funds that support the Partnership’s Victim’s Support Services programs.
“We know sexual violence is a serious topic, and our goal is to remind the community that sexualized violence is not easy to talk about, but one that needs to constantly be addressed,” said Pam Ladd, CEO.
Partnership previously held "Walk a Mile in Her Shoes" for many years, and is bringing the event back to Coolidge Park on Saturday, March 30. Men, women, and children are invited to participate. High heels are optional, but will be available on a first-come, first-served basis. Participants walking in heels are encouraged to find a pair that fits, in advance and bring their own.
Partnership is inviting other local non-profits who provide education about, and services to, victims of violence to be on-site providing education and supporting this event.
Registration is $35 for adults and $20 for students and military. Participants can register as an individual or as a team. “Red Shoe” Awards will be presented to the team and individual who raises the most donations.
