Cloud Filled Days

Winter mode has started today. Perhaps it was the clocks changing this morning. It could have been the hail lashing against the bedroom window or perhaps the fact that my winter project has just started.

I have been in sock knitting mode for a while , but conscious of the need to start a bigger project. Another cardigan, surely not. Ask my better half and he will tell you I have Far Too Many! What then?

I bought a Rowan 'Winter Essential Knits' booklet a few months ago and toyed with a delicate pink jumper. Putting me off was that I had to knit it using two different wools at once. Out of my comfort zone. Long story short I plucked up courage , bought the beautiful wool in Antique colour ( how appropriate) and started it last night. Knitting with two strands at once is easy and I'm loving the soft feel of the combined mohair, silk, alpaca, wool mix. Not a synthetic strand in sight.

Who cares what the weather throws at us. The fire is lit, knitting to do and a rather gentle ghost story to enjoy.

I've been ripping through Kate Morton's latest 'The Clockmaker's Daughter. Like her previous books it follows her usual formulaic approach. Old house, crime of some sort and a good smattering of ghosts to liven up the plot. This one follows the fortunes of an artist from Mid victorian times and his model. Present day involves an archivist finding photos of the model and the artist sketch book, plus a recurring theme of magical stories set around an old house sitting on the banks of the Thames. I won't tell you more, but suffice to say it's making excellent reading. A meaty tome too.

The week has seen the return of my newly cleaned camera. Cloud photos can now be taken without the accompanying threads in the background. Oh my haven't the skies been glorious this week along with the sea like a silvered looking glass.

To cap off the week my first sighting this year of a Small Tortoiseshell butterfly. What a beautiful sight.

Have you started a larger winter project yet, I'd love to know?
